Michael, thanks for the suggestion. My gut feeling is that a change to a compact chain ring with an 11-28 cassette is the way to go if I want to finish and enjoy this century. I'll keep training and climbing on my current set-up for now. Thanks again.
Dean, The first time I rode the Bear, I changed my gearing to a Compact Chain ring 34-50, and I used an 11-28 cassette. This also required a change from a short cage derraileur to a medium cage. My regular cassette is a 11-25. You can also go to a triple. You should be climbing on many of your training rides. Also look into The Saturday century series with Chuck Bramwell, Look on this website under training. There are many in the Club that do regular rides up GMR. Good Luck !!
New centurian/average cyclist, this will be my 3rd century this year, but the Ride Around The Bear will be the first with serious climbing. I did the Hemet Century and Tour de Palm Springs Century with a standard chain ring 53/39 and 12-27 cassette. Is my gearing too big to use? Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

The cost has not been determined according to Mike Lee. Mike said it probably will stay the same as last year, but we will know as soon as we get new budget. Train 72.00 No train 42.00.
